Professional Science Master's in Environmental Policy and Management

Our Professional Science Master's in Environmental Policy and Management allows students to pursue advanced training in environmental policy while developing highly valued management skills. Through an innovative curriculum and internship experience, the program emphasizes environmental management, policy analysis, written and verbal communication, environmental journalism and environmental stewardship.

This four-semester program is ideal for current practitioners who are interested in career and leadership development. Students benefit from access to state-of-the-art labs and instruments, hands-on workshops with our experts, and networking opportunities. Our program exposes students to areas including conservation biology, water resource management, public land management, and environmental analysis using GIS and statistical methods.

    Title: Restoration Works and It’s Worth It

    Description:
    Everglades restoration is fundamentally about restoring the quantity, timing, distribution, and quality of freshwater flow across the Everglades ecosystem. Decades of drainage and development disrupted a naturally slow-moving system, degrading habitats, water quality, and coastal estuaries. Today, restoration efforts focus on storing water when it is abundant, cleaning it through treatment wetlands, and sending it south to rehydrate the ecosystem as the natural ecosystem once functioned. In this talk, I will discuss the history and core principles of Everglades restoration and share recent evidence that state-federal investments in large infrastructure are working, delivering measurable ecological benefits—from increased freshwater delivery to improved habitat conditions downstream. Importantly, restoration is not only an environmental success but a societal one. A healthier Everglades strengthens South Florida’s water supply, protects communities from flood risk, supports fisheries and tourism, and delivers economic returns that exceed the cost of investment.
