BA in Earth Science Education

Our Bachelor of Arts in Earth Science Education provides a broad background in earth sciences for a career in science education or public or private administration dealing with earth and environmental science issues.

Upon completion of this program, you will be eligible for an Earth-Space Science (grades 6-12) Professional Teaching Certificate and be considered a highly qualified teacher. You may choose to teach, pursue graduate school or work in various industries requiring a strong background in earth sciences.

Strong focus on research-based strategies for teaching and learning science, intensive field teaching experience, and personal guidance from master teachers and faculty
Engaging, discipline-specific pedagogy courses like Problem-based Instruction in Mathematics & Science, Classroom Interactions, and Knowing & Learning in Mathematics & Science
120-credit-hour program culminates in a semester-long student internship

Admissions
- Freshman Applicant criteria - for students entering FIU as a freshman or transfer student wiith fewer than 60 credits
- Transfer Applicant criteria - for transfer students entering FIU with 60 or more transfer credits
Program & Resources
Students must:
- Demonstrate competency in a foreign language or American Sign Language. This requirement is met by a grade of "C" or better in a second-semester postsecondary two-semester sequence basic language course, or any second-year or third-year foreign language course. Students may also present acceptable scores from the Advanced Placement Exam, SATII, CLEP examination or other approved instruments. Consult an advisor for more information. (High school grades do not fulfill this requirement.)
- Before starting student teaching, pass the FTCE General Knowledge, Professional Educator and Subject Area exams.
- Before reaching 72 credit hours, pass the General Knowledge Examination.
