Advising

Navigating your college career can be daunting, but you’re not alone. Advisors simplify the process, offering guidance every step of the way.

The advising team is available online and on both MMC and BBC campuses. Meet with your advisor to get more information on your program.

  • Tools

CASE Center for Advising & Student Success is committed to helping you with your advising needs.  During the University closure, we encourage you to use the following advising tools for assistance. Browse the following videos for a walk-through of these tools:

Tips:

  • Class Notes
Make sure to review class notes as they will include important information regarding enrollment requirements or details about the class itself. Some classes are reserved for specific majors or for students pursuing online only programs. Select other sections if you do not meet those requirements.
  • Class Permissions

If prompted to enter a permission number when enrolling, try the following:

    • Leave the permission number box blank
    • Hit next
    • Enroll

If you are still unable to enroll, review the class notes as there may be instructions or restrictions. You may wish to select a different class or section.

  • Co-requisites
Some courses have co-requisites, meaning both classes must be taken in the same term.  Check the class information to determine if there are co-requisites. Many science lecture courses require the corresponding lab.  In order to enroll, both courses (for example, lecture and lab) must be in your shopping cart before enrolling.  Both must be open, be free of any enrollment restrictions, and cannot overlap with your existing schedule. If you've already successfully completed one of the co-requisite classes in a prior term, then you'll only need to enroll in the other pending item. Example, if you need to add BSC 2011 (and you already took and passed BSC 2011L), you do not need to have the lab in your shopping cart to enroll in BSC 2011.
  • Check Your Schedule
You cannot add a class that conflicts with another you've already enrolled in, even if it overlaps by just a few minutes.
  • Location

Be mindful of the campus you've selected for your courswork.

If you are selecting courses from different campuses in the same day, you should plan on travel time, with a buffer for traffic.  Visit FIU Parking's Commuting page for more information on commuting services between campuses and local community.

  • Semester Sessions & Dates

Semesters are divided into different sessions. See below for a break down.
This information is also included under "Meeting Dates" when searching for classes:
