All application materials should be submitted to the Office of Graduate Admissions via the online Graduate Application. Use the graduate admission checklist to get started.

  • Deadlines
    • Fall: Apply by February 15, 5 p.m. EST
    • Spring: Apply by August 1, 5 p.m. EST
  • Requirements
    • GPA: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area with a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale on the last 60 hours of undergraduate work - or a master's degree from an accredited program with a 3.25 GPA
    • GRE: Required
    • Applicant Statement / Letter of Intent: Required; see Applicant Statement below for guidance
    • Letters of Recommendation: Required, three letters
    • Additional Requirements:
      • Resume
      • An admissions interview by the Teaching and Learning Admissions Committee

  • Applicant Statement

    A clear, concise, detailed statement of purpose is essential to your application for doctoral study. It is a chance for you to articulate your interests in the program, your talents, and your goals. The following tips can be helpful as you begin writing your statement.

    1. What is motivating you to undertake doctoral study? Begin by discussing your reason(s) for wanting to pursue doctoral study. You can could include your personal and professional background, your experience and skills, current position, and your aspirations.
    2. What are your interests? Please explain your interest in a specific program of study. Indicate your knowledge of the program, its mission, why the program is a good fit you, and what you can contribute to the program. How will studying in the program help you pursue your goals and aspirations? Is there a particular faculty member with whom you would like to work?
    3. What are your abilities?  Briefly summarize your abilities, strengths, and goals as they relate to your interest in the program. For example, what current abilities would you like to strengthen, and what new knowledges and skills do you hope to develop?
