The Department of Philosophy provides students with the advanced analytical reasoning, logical analysis, and compelling communication skills essential for the dynamic careers of the 21st century. We confront fundamental questions of value, meaning and reality while exploring the structure of reasoning itself. Our graduates pursue careers in research, education, public policy, business, data ethics, healthcare administration and a variety of other fields. Many go on to graduate school, pursuing careers in law, higher education and more.

FIU Philosophy research is centered on contemporary and applied ethics, with particular strength in the intersection of philosophy and modern technology. Our faculty drive critical dialogue in ethics, big data, and artificial intelligence. We also have expertise in health humanities, political and legal philosophy (including theories of justice, human rights, and democratic thought), philosophy of mind and cognitive science, feminist theory, art and aesthetics theory and metaphysics.
