Our program culminating in the Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education is designed to provide the opportunity for students to enhance analytical and research skills for leadership roles in institutions of higher education.
FIU’s Higher Education PhD program explores postsecondary education from multiple disciplinary lenses and from theoretical and applied perspectives. Students learn alongside faculty who examine the broader ecology of social institutions and sociopolitical contexts shaping postsecondary education. They consider the ecological factors that further the marginalization and disenfranchisement of certain populations—as well as the educational policies and practices that create meaningful access and inclusion. This shared inquiry develops within the context of a Hispanic-Serving Institution and the diverse setting of South Florida.
