Standards-aligned to help K-12 teachers make the most of the experience, our labs and demos pair university research with meaningful activities to be used in the classroom - in person or virtually. These experiences also highlight the “how” of research projects to inspire K-12 students to think critically and develop solutions to the problems of today and tomorrow.
Labs and field trips developed as part of research grants remain on the Education Outreach program menu in perpetuity, assuring lasting reach. For example, the Tech to Protect lab, based on research from the Marine Community and Behavioral Ecology Lab, puts students in the fins of turtle, shark and marine mammal researchers.

Our camps come in many forms, from single-day mini-camps to more traditional day camps during the summer and holiday breaks. These camps provide an excellent platform to pilot education outreach activities to specific age groups.

Mission Inspire is made up of comprehensive, standards-aligned interdisciplinary learning expeditions that are thematically driven. Through focus groups, teachers have expressed a desire to connect classroom activities to real-world data sets and information.
Mission Inspire provides a wide range of activities across many STEAM fields including math, writing, environmental and biological science, history and art. Activities with a package of presentations, training videos, background information and researcher profiles present students with concrete examples of how STEAM concepts lead to future careers and solutions to complex problems. For example, many of the activities in Expedition Ocean are directly related to research missions conducted at the Aquarius Reef Base. Mission Inspire is intended to be matched with pacing guides and used over the course of a school year, affording the opportunity to capture evaluation data over time in partnership with the School of Education and Human Development.
