Bethany has been a graduate consultant at the CEW since May 2023. She is a current PhD Candidate in the Developmental Science program here at FIU. She enjoys working collaboratively with students to refine their writing. In her free time, she enjoys reading rom-coms, taking long walks (not on the beach), and traveling.

Cameo D.

Cameo has been a consultant at the Center for Excellence in Writing since January of 2023. She speaks English and has a BA in English (Writing and Rhetoric concentration) from FIU. She is currently pursuing an MS in Professional Writing and will graduate in the Fall of 2024.

Cynthia J.

Cynthia has been an undergraduate writing tutor and writing assistant at the Center for Excellence in Writing since January 2024. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor‘s degree in English as well as a certificate in Global Media Communication. When not in school, she can be found sketching, baking and/or reading novels.

Daniel M.

Daniel is a 2022 graduate of FIU, with a BA in English (literature focus). He enjoys helping students hone their critical-thinking skills through writing and literature. Outside of tutoring, he spends most of his time DJing and periodicallyworking as a moderator for an online book club.   

Deborah A.

Deborah is an undergraduate writing tutor at the Center for Excellence in Writing since Fall of 2023. She graduated that same Fall with her Bachelors in English - Writing and Rhetoric along with her Minor in Marketing and a certificate in Journalism. On her downtime Deborah can be found with a book in hand and plans to pursue her Masters in the upcoming year.

Diana graduated with BA in liberal studies with a branch in humanities in the year 2018. She graduated with her MS in Early Childhood Education in spring 2021. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, watching films and playing video games.

Elayne B.

Elayne graduated with a B.A. in English and a certificate in Professional and Public writing, and has been a tutor at the CEW since 2013. She is fluent in both Spanish and English, and hopes to publish a novel one day. Upon receiving her bachelor’s degree, Elayne wanted to become a magazine editor, but life took a surprising turn. Besides helping students at CEW, she was a former middle school English teacher for 5 years but is now working as a Case Manager. In her spare time, she loves to travel, explore different restaurants and dance the night away.

Ezra G.

Ezra is a 2024 graduate of FIU, with a Bachelors of English with a focus in writing and rhetoric. Ezra plans to attend graduate school in the fall of 2025 for creative writing. On their off time they love to pet their two cats, play video games, and listen to Taylor Swift.

Felipe V.

Felipe has been an undergraduate consultant since January 2024. He is currently studying for a BA in English Writing and Rhetoric, including a Minor in Business. Felipe leverages his skills in editing and technical communication to support his endeavors in academic literature. During his downtime, Felipe partakes in avid reading, writing fiction and historical nonfiction, and tabletop roleplaying games.

Italia A.

Italia is an English major specializing in Writing & Rhetoric. Though she dabbles in poetry, where Italia’s rhetorical muscles really shine is in her poetic eviscerations of those that annoy her—see: Graduate Tutor Mario. Ever the early riser, Italia fancies some pre-bedtime yoga, botany, reading, and watching anime. She firmly believes Haikyu is the greatest story ever told, though that’s largely because she hasn’t finished FMA: Brotherhood yet.

A writer and artist, Jared is a writing tutor at the Center for Excellence in Writing who is committed to uplifting writers and growing community.

Jeann H.

Jeann graduated with a B.A. in English (Linguistics) and is pursuing an M.A. in Linguistics. His academic interests encompass sociolinguistics, second language acquisition, bilingualism, translingualism, and education. At the CEW, he has been a tutor since January 2023 where he also had experience as a class mentor and a Writing Assistant. He is a coffee enthusiast who enjoys reading, learning languages, watching Asian and Latin American dramas, doing arts and crafts, and baking.

Jonathan S.

Jonathan has been an undergraduate tutor at the Center for Excellence in Writing since May 2023. He is currently finishing his Bachelor's in English Writing and Rhetoric and plans to further his education to become an English professor. He dabbles in a few creative hobbies, such as video essaying and editing, fiction writing, and voice acting.

Manny D.

Manny is a graduate writing tutor and coordinator at the Center for Excellence in Writing. He worked at the center as an undergrad tutor from 2011-2012, and subsequently as a graduate tutor from 2017 to the present. He holds a BA and MA in English Literature from FIU and his focus was on Southern Gothic fiction, particularly the works of William Faulkner. He has had the pleasure of working on independent filmmaking projects in Miami, including short and feature-length films. He enjoys writing, history, photography, and playing the guitar.

Marcela A.

Marcela (also known as Marcee) has been a graduate consultant at the CEW since May 2024. She speaks Spanish, English, and French, and has a BA in Humanities & English. She is currently working on an MS in Mass Communications, with a concentration in Copywriting, at FIU and Miami Ad School. He also runs the Spanish Conversation Circle and co-leads the Screenwriting Workshop. On the weekends, Mario can be found in his usual karaoke spots, or re-watching his favorite anime: Haikyu!!
