Olivia Fernandes

PhD Student

My name is Olivia Fernandes, and I was born in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2017 I earned my B.S in dietetics from Georgia State University. After graduation I moved to Miami where I spent four years working in the fitness industry as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor. I am a 200-hour registered yoga teacher, NASM certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist. My nutrition education, experience in the fitness industry and dance background, developed my passion for connecting nutrition to kinesiology. I earned my Master’s in Applied Kinesiology and Physiology from the University of Florida and completed my Dietetic internship in 2020. I have experience working with The University of Miami’s Herbert Wellness Center, The Diabetes Institution in Texas, Douglas County School Nutrition in Georgia and FIU’s Sport Nutrition program. This led me to the Teaching and Learning Kinesiology PhD program at FIU, where I will continue my passion for furthering my own education and working towards a career of research and teaching.
