 What do we Read?  Making Equitable Choices in the Classroom

Doctoral Student in Teaching and Learning:  Language, Literature, Literacy and Culture, Florida International University

Building on the theme of Social Justice in the classroom, Ana will discuss how selection of reading materials should be diverse, authentic, and engage students in thoughtful and critical discussions, regardless of grade level. What can and should future teachers consider when developing curricula and planning out classroom explorations of big ideas? Can and should we use multiple modes of text (video, online, images, sound, music) to create a more equitable classroom, where diverse approaches to texts and ideas help us broaden our perspectives?
