Conference FAQs

  • What is a virtual conference?

A virtual conference is an organized event that takes place online rather than in a physical location and where individuals experience the event and its content in a virtual environment, rather than in an in-person gathering. At the 2020 FEA Regional Virtual Conference at FIU, attendees will join through a video streaming platform and watch conference presentations and participate with questions and comments in real time.

  • How long will the event be?

The 2020 FEA Regional Virtual Conference will start at 8:30AM and end at 1:30PM. You should always try to arrive a minimum of 15 minutes before the start to give you time to log in and to get into the event on time. There will be a lunch break and you are welcome to step away from the computer. For those who are interested, we will have an optional speed networking session during the lunch break so you can get to learn more about FIU and meet some of our faculty.

  • Who can attend the 2020 FEA Regional Virtual Conference at FIU?

This year’s virtual event is open to middle and high school students in grades 6-12, who are interested in careers that involve teaching and education. Only high school students can register for the competitive events.

  • What do you do to ensure a safe environment?

To create a safe virtual environment, all registrants must agree to the FEA Code of Conduct for Virtual Events to participate. Only FEA conference registrants are allowed in the small group video breakout rooms and these sessions are not recorded. A trained facilitator will also help to lead a productive dialogue in each of these sessions.

  • What is the cost to attend FIU’s virtual FEA Regional Conference?

Registration to attend the virtual event is free of charge.

  • When can I register for the 2020 FEA Regional Virtual Conference?

Online registration for the 2020 FEA Regional Virtual Conference at FIU will open on September 21.

  • What happens after I register to attend the event?

After registering on Eventbrite, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to the conference online event page. On this page, there is a countdown to when our event starts, and the Zoom links you will need for the main general session and breakout sessions.

  • Can I pick breakout sessions to attend?

Yes! You can choose any session you would like to attend in each breakout session time block, based on the topic that best fits your interests. You can also watch some of the FEA competitions. Space is limited for some sessions, so sign up early and please only select a session if you plan to attend.

  • Will I be able to switch sessions if the one I signed up for is not what I expected?

We encourage you to attend the session you signed up for when you registered. To help you decide which sessions to attend, you can read more about the sessions on this website, where you can read the session descriptions and review the speaker bios. If you get lost at some point or lose the correct link, you can go to the conference online event page on Eventbrite to find the link for the session you would like to attend.

  • How can I register for the FEA competitions?

To enter the FEA competitions, your sponsoring teacher must complete and submit the Online Competition Entry Form. A link to access the competition entry form will be emailed to your sponsoring teacher after he/she creates a Group for your school/chapter on the Eventbrite registration site and registers to attend the event.

  • What technology do I need for this event?

The virtual content will be delivered with Zoom, a video streaming platform. You will need a computer or device with a webcam and microphone to participate in a Zoom session. You do not have to have a Zoom account to attend a Zoom meeting or webinar.  You will be prompted to download the software, once you have clicked on the link that we will provide you.  You may also wish to create an account, but that is not required to participate in a Zoom meeting.

  • Is there a dress code?

There is no dress code. However, this is your opportunity to make your best impression, even via a video session. Consider ways to make a positive impact.

  • Do I have to attend the entire event?

Virtual events bring the experience of an in-person conference to your personal device, so just like an in-person conference, you have the freedom to pick the sessions you attend. However, attending the event in its entirety—the opening, breakout, and closing sessions—will help you to get the most out of the experience.

  • Will there be recordings available after the event?

If you registered for the event but are unable to attend, you can request a recording of the keynote session(s) by emailing feaconference@fiu.edu. Breakout sessions are not recorded for privacy reasons.

  • How can I contact the event organizer with any questions?
You may email us at feaconference@fiu.edu.
