Admissions

All application materials should be submitted to the Office of Graduate Admissions via the online Graduate Application. Use the graduate admission checklist to get started. To ensure timely receipt of your application, it is advised to submit all materials at least one week before the deadline.

    • GRE: Not Required
    • Applicant Statement/Letter of Intent: Autobiographical sketch required
    • Letters of Recommendation: Required, 3 Letters

      • Interview by the Admissions Committee (applicant will be contacted by committee if selected)
      • Pass the Florida Teacher Certification General Knowledge exam
    • Graduate Transfer Credit: Graduate students may request transfer of credit toward their degree program. Students must meet with their advisors and make this request for transfer of credit immediately upon acceptance to the program. Read the Official University Policy on Graduate Transfer Credit for conditions of acceptance.

  • Scholarship

    We are pleased to offer a Project Pathway scholarship opportunity to candidates who are admitted into the school counseling major to increase the number of certified school counselors in Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS). The scholarship covers the cover the cost of full-time enrollment (up to 9 units) per semester. Scholarship recipients also receive a stipend to help pay for additional fees. Candidates who are admitted into the school counseling major are eligible to apply but not all candidates who apply will be awarded the scholarship. 

    Project Pathways: The project aims to respond to the critical shortage of culturally and linguistically diverse school counselors in South Florida by increasing the number of credentialed school counselors employed by MDCPS. 

     

    Scholarship objectives:

    Recruit, prepare, retain, and graduate school counselors into the Counselor Education: School Counseling major with the knowledge, skills, dispositions to provide school-based mental health services to culturally and linguistically diverse students in MDCPS.

    To increase the number of school counselor practicum and internship students providing school-based mental health services in MDCPS.

    To address the critical shortage of highly qualified certified school counselors in culturally and linguistically diverse schools by increase the total number of providers hired by MDCPS.

    Applying for the scholarship:

    Admitted into the MS in Counselor Education: School Counseling major,

    1-page personal statement about financial need and commitment to supporting schools in MDCPS after graduation, and

    Internship with scholarship committee.

    Please note that not all candidates who apply will be offered the scholarship. Candidates may reapply for the scholarship if spaces become available in the future. 

     

    Candidates awarded the scholarship are required to:

    Maintain good standing in the MS in Counselor Education: School Counseling major,

    Maintain a GPA of 3.0 throughout the time in the major,

    Complete practicum and internship in a high needs school in MDCPS,

    Attend workshops and trainings on topics specific to the scholarship, and

    Apply for school counselor positions in MDCPS upon graduation.

    Failure to complete all of these requirements will disqualify candidates from continuing with the scholarship.
