Andrew Strycharski is Assistant Professor of English at Florida International University in a "hybrid" appointment in Rhetoric and Composition and Renaissance Literature, and is an affiliated Women's Studies faculty member. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. in English from the University of Texas at Austin and his B.A. from Temple University. Before coming to FIU in 2007, he also taught at the University of Miami. Dr. Strycharski's research focuses on literacy, technology and education, using a careful historical investigation of the early modern print revolution to assess and engage with twenty-first century new media literacies. His regular course offerings at FIU include classes on Sixteenth- and Seventeenth-Century English Literature, Writing and New Media, and Gender and Sexuality in the European Renaissance. His current book project, The Literacy Affect: Philip Sidney and Early Modern Education, examines the psychology of literacy within the context of the sixteenth century's new media transition from script to print, with special focus on the English courtier and poet Philip Sidney. His articles appear in Studies in English Literature and The Sidney Journal, and he is a co-author of the textbook Composing Inquiry. Dr. Strycharski currently serves on the Council of the International Sidney Society. He has won research funding from the Folger Institute, the FIU College of Arts and Sciences, and the University of Texas at Austin Graduate School. He has also worked on projects supported by the U.S. Department of Education and the Florida Public Spaces Project, and has served as a consultant for Pearson and Thomson/Cengage Publishers.
