Most recently, Dr. Rose served as Founding Associate Provost for the Office to Advance Women, Equity, and Diversity (AWED), a role she assumed in 2016.

Suzanna joined the FIU family in 2000 as Director of Women’s Studies (now the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies) and Professor of Psychology and Women's and Gender Studies in the College of Arts, Sciences & Education (CASE). From 2004-2007, she held a dual appointment as Director of CWS and Chair of Psychology, and in 2008, she was appointed Senior Associate Dean for the Sciences within CASE. In 2011, after having been appointed Founding Executive Director of the School of Integrated Science & Humanity (SISH), Suzanna (with Leanne Wells) was instrumental in establishing the effectiveness of the Mastery Math Program and in founding the Master Math Lab, which improved student success, thereby increasing FIU’s second year retention rate. Her work was recognized by an FIU Presidential Excellence Award in 2014 and two awards (with L. Wells) from the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. Suzanna also founded the tremendously impactful Faculty Mentor Program, helping numerous faculty to succeed in their careers.

Also, beginning in 2016, Suzanna led implementation efforts related to the NSF’s Institutional Transformation grant, FIU ADVANCE (2016-2021), aimed at enhancing recruitment, promotion, and retention of women and underrepresented minority faculty at FIU in alignment with NSF's broader goal of increasing diversity in academic science and engineering careers. Under the auspices of AWED, with support from the ADVANCE grant, she spearheaded the launch of two signature programs—the Bystander Leadership and Theatre programs—which have had demonstrated enduring impact, making significant contributions not only to FIU but also to higher education at large, as evident from their widespread adoption and implementation across numerous universities.

Suzanna has published extensively on issues related to women and gender, with more than 30 universities nationally and internationally consulting with her about successful recruitment and retention of women faculty in science and engineering.

Throughout her tenure, Suzanna was committed to supporting faculty. Her leadership and determination to help ensure that all faculty can thrive, are a hallmark of her legacy. In recognition of her many years of service and numerous important contributions to the university, she was conferred the title of Faculty Emerita upon her retirement. Suzanna now lives in Los Angeles, California. She can be reached at: srose@fiu.edu.
