Ana Menéndez, MFA, is an Associate Professor at FIU. Some of the classes she has taught or developed at FIU include Creative Writing, Writing Across Borders, Humor as Resistance, and Bearing Witness. 

Ms. Menéndez has published five books of fiction: The Apartment (2023), Adios, Happy Homeland! (2011), The Last War (2009), Loving Che (2003), and In Cuba I Was a German Shepherd (2001), whose title story won a Pushcart Prize. She has worked as a journalist in the United States and abroad, lastly as a prize-winning columnist for The Miami Herald. As a reporter and columnist, she covered Cuba, Haiti, Kashmir, Afghanistan, and India. Her work has appeared in VogueBomb MagazineThe New York Times, and Tin House, and in several anthologies, including The Norton Anthology of Latino Literature. She holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from New York University and a B.A. in English from Florida International University. She is a former Fulbright Scholar at the American University in Cairo.
