Practitioner Experience
Neil Marrin held leadership roles in community recreation agencies for over 20 years in both the non-profit and municipal sectors. In his final role as a practitioner, he served as Superintendent of Parks and Recreation of the Great Neck Park District overseeing the operations of a municipal park district, which included an Indoor Ice Rink, an Indoor Tennis Complex, an Aquatic facility, a Marina and multiple parks. He managed all operations, including the development and oversight of a $12 million budget, supervising a staff of 50 full-time employees and up to 200 part-time and seasonal employees.
Teaching Experience
Mr. Marrin began his teaching career at Lehman College serving as adjunct faculty in Recreation Education. He then moved on to teaching full time at James Madison University (JMU) in the Sport and Recreation Management program, where he taught for 11 years. At JMU his course focus was on leadership, management, foundations courses, facility and event management, and programing classes, as well as internship and practicum courses and fiscal management. Additional focus included leading Experiential Learning Opportunities in Sports (NCAA Final Four, NASCAR racing) and International Study, leading 5 short term and semester long study abroad programs in Ireland, Italy, Australia, Rwanda and Belgium, as well as a virtual international program in Paris (during Covid) where students studied international sport culture. At JMU he also served as School Assistant Director for seven years as well as School Interim Director for two years. He holds an Online Teaching Certification from Quality Matters, an organization that trains and certifies faculty and courses for optimal education in an online environment.
