Dr. Sherwin Jose is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Science Education at Florida International University and the Science Disciplinary Lead in the Department of Teaching and Learning. His leadership efforts attend to course and program development that supports the B.S. in Elementary Education track. This includes building upon new and existing relationships with leaders in the Miami-Dade County Public School (MDCPS) district to better equip and support students participating in pre-service teacher courses and programs at FIU. His teaching efforts focus on training pre-service and in-service elementary school teachers to engage future students in authentic science learning through student-centric approaches to course design and curriculum development. He draws on years of success with K-12 students to inform his instructional practices, which are grounded in the real-world context of the primary and secondary science classroom.

Previously, Dr. Jose served for over 20 years as a K-12 science teacher, STEM Liaison, and Science Coach in the MDCPS district working in various kinds of institutions, including Title I, Magnet, and Adult Education schools. Dr. Jose was also an adjunct faculty member in the Miami Dade College School of Education and Nova Southeastern University’s Fischler Academy. He holds an Ed.D. in Instructional Leadership, an Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership, a Master of Science in Science Education, and a Master of Science in Reading Education from NOVA Southeastern University.
