Biology Expertise : Population and Communities
Institute of Environment Expertise: Wetland Ecology
Dr. Goeke is a postdoctoral associate in Dr. Nathan Dorn's Aquatic Ecology Lab, where she studies the roles fish play in nutrient cycling in the Everglades Stormwater Treatment Areas. She's broadly interested in the links between species interactions, community structure, and ecosystem functioning, and how understanding these links can allow us to predict ecosystem responses to environmental change.
Her previous work researched the changing trophic interactions of herbivorous invertebrates in response to mangrove encroachment on the Texas coast. Since joining FIU in 2022 her focus has shifted from invertebrates and mangroves to fish and freshwater wetlands, but she enjoys the broader perspective this cross-system and taxa experience gives her.
