Nicole Cook taught high school chemistry for five years. While teaching she participated in the Research Experience for Teachers program at Virginia Commonwealth University for two consecutive summers. After earning her PhD, she returned to the high school classroom for two years before joining the FIUteach team. She has co-authored and published research articles on teacher professional development in peer-reviewed journals such as School Science and Mathematics and the Electronic Journal for Science Education.
