Research Areas
Dr. Indranil Chakraborty is an Assistant Teaching Professor and is in charge of the X-ray Diffraction Facility at Florida International University. He specializes in inorganic and coordination chemistry, with extensive expertise in X-ray crystallography, hydrothermal synthesis, and molecular design of metal complexes for biomedical and imaging applications.
Before joining FIU, Dr. Chakraborty held research and teaching positions at the University of California, Santa Cruz; the University of Texas at El Paso; Harvard University; and the University of Puerto Rico. His research has contributed to the development of photoactive metal carbonyl complexes, antibacterial silver compounds, and transition-metal-based therapeutic agents.
A prolific scholar, Dr. Chakraborty has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, contributed book chapters, and holds several U.S. patents. He is an active member of the American Chemical Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the American Crystallographic Association. At FIU, he teaches a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses, including Advanced Inorganic Chemistry, General Chemistry II, and Chemistry and Society, while mentoring students in both classroom and laboratory settings.
