Dr. Lisa Brinn is the Undergraduate Program Director and a Teaching Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Florida International University in Miami, Florida, where she teaches undergraduate anatomy and physiology courses for pre-health students. With over a decade of service at FIU, Dr. Brinn is deeply committed to student success and has developed innovative laboratory protocols for the Human Anatomy and Physiology labs—both in person and online—which receive consistently positive feedback from students. She has also worked with Learning Assistants (LAs) for more than 10 years, mentoring and training post-baccalaureate LAs to become effective educators and future leaders.
Prior to joining FIU, Dr. Brinn taught at Texas Tech School of Pharmacy, where she delivered a wide range of courses including human anatomy, physiology, compounding laboratory, principles of disease, problem-based learning case studies, and neuroanatomy. She holds both a master’s and Ph.D. from the University of São Paulo in Brazil, where her research focused on brain development, specifically how neurons migrate to their final destinations during development. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where she studied neuronal migration during development in the presence of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Additionally, she earned a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Education.
