Research Areas
Jessica (Jess) N. Smith is a doctoral candidate in the Clinical Science program at Florida International University (FIU). Broadly, her research interests are related to understanding etiological mechanisms of youth attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and comorbid disorders/related constructs. Specifically, her research interests include a) the measurement of executive function (EF), such as task vs. questionnaire-based assessment of EF and the influence of emotion and motivation; b) the potential causes and developmental courses of transdiagnostic constructs (e.g., irritability) relevant to youth psychopathology; and c) mechanisms of heterogeneity within and comorbidity between DSM disorders (e.g., ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder). Ultimately, her goal is to conduct methodologically and quantitatively thoughtful work that will improve measurement of EF in order to better understand mechanisms of DSM disorders and transdiagnostic constructs.
