Kimberly (Kimmy) Marin Verhelst

Kimmy holds a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations from Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar (Colombia), where she received a bachelor’s thesis award for her research on democracy and human nature. Her research interests lie at the intersection of cultural stressors, structural inequalities, youth development, and network systems, with a particular interest in how cultural norms, gender ideologies, and systemic inequities shape health outcomes and interpersonal violence. She is a recipient of the CASE Dean's Distinguished Doctoral Fellowship and will be joining the Culture, Context, Health & Identities (CCHI) Lab under the mentorship of Dr. Dionne Stephens. Having previously collaborated with FIU Ph.D. Students, she is eager to deepen her expertise in qualitative research, community-based approaches, and network analysis. Through the ASCP program, she looks forward to conducting innovative research that bridges academic inquiry with real-world application, contributing to applied research that informs culturally attuned interventions and fosters meaningful social change.
