Maria is a PhD student in Dr. Stacy Frazier’s lab, Nurturing All Families through Advances in Services Innovation. She holds an MS in Biostatistics from the University of Miami (UM) Miller School of Medicine as well as a Bachelors in Psychology with Honors from UM. In 2019, she earned the prestigious McKnight Fellowship from the Florida Education Fund. In 2022, she joined the ASCP program as she wraps up her Clinical Psychology training. She uses participatory action research to engage under-privileged communities in the scientific process to promote capacity and resilience. Her aim is to advance the intersection of trauma, resilience and community programming by (1) mitigating the science-to-community and science-to-service gaps, (2) training community professionals in implementing culturally-responsive and trauma-informed evidence-based tools and practices for youth and families, and (3) identifying and leveraging protective factors for youth and families experiencing trauma and adversity. The common thread and spirit of her work is in serving the marginalized. Visit her website at mariametaweh.com
