GQ is a second-year doctoral student and joined the ASCP program in Fall 2022. She graduated from the University of San Diego with a B.A. in Behavioral Neuroscience and a B.A. in Spanish. Prior to entering FIU, GQ spent a year studying in Spain and completed a postbaccalaureate degree funded by the NIH at The University of Kansas. A former McNair Scholar and Gates Millenium Scholar, GQ’s diverse experiences and knowledge of the Spanish language and culture have allowed her to amass a unique set of skills. She has used these skills to engage and share knowledge with diverse communities both locally and globally. These experiences have fueled her interest in understanding how culture, diversity, and stigma impact health disparities in Black and Latinx communities. GQ will be pursuing her Ph.D. in the Culture, Context, Health & Identities (CCHI) lab under the guidance of Dr. Dionne Stephens and is funded through FIU's Inclusion Fellowship. GQ is currently working on her master's thesis and is excited to gain more skills and learn more about conducting research with diverse communities.
