Andrea Castillo Scholarship - AcademicWorks
The Andrea Castillo Scholarship Endowment offers FIU students the opportunity to secure a $1,000 scholarship to support their endeavors in becoming teachers. The Castillo family established this scholarship in memory of Andrea Castillo, a talented and exceptional student who dreamed of being a teacher. The scholarship is awarded to one or more students per year who share aspects of Andrea's love for teaching. Students must be enrolled in an initial Teacher Prep Program at FIU, and preference is given to graduates of the Andrea Castillo Teaching Academy at Ronald W. Reagan Doral Senior High School.
Students interested in applying must:
- Be enrolled or accepted for admission to FIU, with preference given to graduates of the Andrea Castillo Teaching Academy at Ronald W. Reagan Doral Senior High School
- Be enrolled as a full-time student (12 credits undergraduate) and maintain good academic standing
- Be enrolled in an initial Teacher Prep Program at FIU and must continue in such program each year if reapplying
- Write an essay on volunteerism in the field of education and the importance of the teaching profession
- Agree to teach in a Florida public school following graduation equivalent to the number of years the scholarship is received. Should the recipient find employment outside of teaching, they must inform the School of Education and Human Development on how the fellowship will continue to impact them in the pursuit of their own goals and in the field of education
CASE is allocating additional scholarship funding to encourage students to apply, and may, at its discretion, award an additional candidate who meets the qualifications, or decide to support an existing recipient for additional scholarships. - BellSouth Scholarships in Education

This endowment was established by BellSouth Corp (now AT&T) to provide scholarships and fellowships to undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate a commitment to learning technology and are pursuing a degree in Education.
Must be enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking student (12 credits undergraduate / 9 credits graduate) in an Education program; GPA 3.25 or above; Demonstrated commitment to teaching through technology as described in a one-page typed statement.

Cuban Women's Club - AcademicWorks
Dedicated to providing continuing educational opportunities for Miami-Dade County’s Hispanic females, the Cuban Women’s Club established this scholarship endowment in 1993. The Club’s support has enabled women of Cuban descent to further their career goals by helping them obtain undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Must be enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking student (12 credits undergraduate / 9 credits graduate) in an Education program; GPA 3.0 or above; Must be a citizen of the U.S. and a resident of Miami-Dade County; Preference given to students with an interest in serving Hispanic populations

The Esther Winick Memorial Scholarship was established in 1991 through the generous support of the Itard Foundation and family and friends to provide funding for student scholarships for candidates who are currently employed teachers in Miami-Dade or Broward County who are enrolled in courses in Education for the purpose of obtaining certification in any specialty in the field of Special Education.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
Currently employed teacher in Dade or Broward county (individuals on sabbatical leave will fit the definition of currently employed; similarly, individuals taking courses during the summer, even on a full-time basis, will qualify if they will be returning to teach the following fall); Enrolled in an Education program for the purpose of obtaining a certification in any specialty in special education, except gifted
- Jan L. Tucker
Professor Jan L. Tucker was among the first global educators nationally and internationally. Dr. Tucker was instrumental in implementing global education in many of Miami’s public schools and teach education programs. Friends of Jan’s began a scholarship fund in his honor; and, in memory of her late husband, Toni Kirkwood-Tucker created a permanent endowment in support of Global Education.

Must be enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking graduate student (9 credits) in the College of Education; Majoring in International/Intercultural Education or in Curriculum and Instruction with emphasis on Social Studies or International/Intercultural Education ; GPA 3.5 or above; Preference given to doctoral students; Submission of an essay on why global awareness or global perspectives or global education is a necessity in education in the 21st century; Submission of one (1) letter of recommendation from a teacher/professor/other professional who can attest to your academic potential, leadership qualities and/or community service.
- Jane O. McQuire Scholarship

Ms. Carrie Otto created this scholarship in honor of her mother, Jane O. McQuire, a Miami-Dade County Public School teacher for over 17 years. Jane’s lifelong dedication to enhancing opportunities for underprivileged areas inspired the “magnet” gifted program at Naranja Elementary School in Homestead. This scholarship is for students with an interest in special education and/or gifted students.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
Must be enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking student (12 credits undergraduate / 9 credits graduate) in Education; Special Education/Gifted major; GPA 3.0 or above; U.S. citizens or permanent resident; Demonstrated financial need based on federal financial aid standards as determined by the University’s Financial Aid Office; Personal statement (500-1,000 words) regarding personal career goals as they relate to Special Education and the Urban environment.

Friends and family of retired Congressman William Lehman created an endowment in memory of his daughter, Kathryn Lehman-Weiner, a dedicated public school teacher. Kathryn Lehman Weiner scholars in English Education are selected for their love of language and their interest in advancing both verbal and communication skills among our young people.

Must be enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking student (12 credits undergraduate) in Education; English Education Major; GPA 3.0 or above; Required essay (1-2 pages) about career goals and an explanation of why the financial assistance would helpful in assisting the student meet his or her goals.

Karis MacDonnell, an FIU alumna and adjunct faculty member of the College of Education, continues to generously support the endowment she created with her late husband, William, and which initially was dedicated to the memory of his mother, Beatrice Bell Hutchins. The MacDonnell scholarships reflect the family’s high regard for the noble profession of teaching.
Minimum eligibility requirements:
Must be enrolled as a full-time (12 credits), degree-seeking junior admitted into the Elementary Education program; Sincere desire to teach for more than five years; Demonstrated financial need based on federal financial aid standards as determined by the University’s Financial Aid Office; GPA 3.0 or above Scholarship may be renewed, must re-apply each year and follow procedures; Preference for selection shall be given to previous MacDonnell scholars in good standing.

This endowment was established by Sally F. Samuels in memory of her nephew, Mark Blum, an FIU alumnus and Miami-Dade County Public School teacher. Through her gift, Ms. Samuels honors Mark’s commitment to students and his many years of service to the teaching profession. Ms. Samuels passed away in 2006.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
Must be enrolled as a full-time (12 credits), degree-seeking undergraduate student with a declared major in Education; GPA 3.0 or above, including transfer students; Demonstrated financial need based on federal financial aid standards as determined by the University’s Financial Aid Office; U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Scholarship may be renewed; must re-apply each year and follow procedures; No student can receive the scholarship for more than two academic years.

Former Pembroke Pines Mayor Alex G. Fekete, in his commitment to education and our youth, founded this scholarship to support educators and education’s future. Through the Mayor Alex G. Fekete Annual Golf Tournament, named “A Tradition for the Millennium,” with the gracious support of corporate sponsors, participants and volunteers, the event proceeds were contributed to establish and grow a scholarship endowment in support of students and teachers of Pembroke Pines.

In honor of his grandfather, Robert R. Bellamy II created the Robert R. Bellamy Memorial Scholarship. The establishment of this endowed scholarship addresses the need of teacher preparation in areas of critical shortage. Robert R. Bellamy II passed away in 2006. Mr. Bellamy and his grandfather’s legacy will live on through this endowed scholarship.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:Fully admitted and enrolled in an undergraduate Initial Teacher Preparation Program in Education; Maintain a course load of at least 12 credits; Minimum GPA of 3.0; Submission of a typed personal statement (double spaced, two-page maximum) that describes your educational goals and tells how being a recipient of this scholarship will help you fulfill them.
