He is a fellow with the FIU Tropical Conservation Institute. He received his PhD from the University of Florida in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation in 2013.
Matthew’s research focuses on endangered West African crocodiles and developing practical intervention strategies for species recovery. He is also employing environmental (e)DNA to rapidly assess critically endangered crocodilians and pygmy hippos in West African Protected Areas. His research directly benefits crocodiles and other wildlife, builds professional capacity among in-country stewards and partners, and engages local communities in sustainable conservation practices.
