Dr. Deborah J. Hasson began her career in family English literacy at FIU, working with Hispanic and Haitian immigrant families. She later became involved in professional development and teacher education at FIU and Florida State University. Dr. Hasson has written articles on family education, native language maintenance in bilinguals, and preservice teachers’ knowledge base, attitudes and self-efficacy toward English learners. She served as Director of Hispanic Initiatives at the National Center for Family Literacy in Louisville, Kentucky from 2008 to 2010. She is currently COE Visiting Assistant Dean of Community Engagement.
