Other Types of Plagiarism

You ALSO commit plagiarism when:

  • Purchasing, stealing, or borrowing a paper from another person or organization and submitting it as your own.
  • Using the same paper for different courses.
  • Hiring someone to write your paper or parts of it and submitting it as your own.
  • Using someone's ideas to build your own without citing the source.
  • Making up sources or parts of them like page numbers or year of publication.
  • Translating a document without acknowledging the original source.

You DO NOT commit plagiarism when:

  • Writing about your own experiences, thoughts, or conclusions about a subject.
  • Using common knowledge.
  • Writing about your own results in an experiment or research study.
