Whether it’s taking a stand against language extinction, inspiring at-risk students to attend college or reaching out to the community, we are working hard share the richness and importance of art and humanities in our daily life.
Through the Center for the Humanities in an Urban Environment we are engaging the public through unique opportunities to experience and appreciate our rich cultural history. Most recently, the Department of English was instrumental in bringing Shakespeare’s first folio to FIU – the only site in Florida to host the first edition of the bard’s collected works.
Advocating for Women
The Center for Women and Gender Studies promotes scholarly inquiry related to gender in diverse cultures. Providing scholarship opportunities for students in the STEM fields and social sciences, we offer degrees, certificates and courses across a range of pressing issues - such as gender, and power, race and ethnicity.
Power of Words
For centuries, change has begun with the impetus of an idea put to paper. Our Creative Writing Program is honing the voices of creative minds like alumnus and inaugural poet Richard Blanco who has used his words to welcome presidents and mourn national tragedies. We are training the next generation of writers, advocates and artists.
