He is an astute stock analyst and investor as well as an accomplished pianist. During his retirement, he has processed years of technical readings for the Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, and served as executive director on the board of the Hearing and Speech Center of Florida. Having been Florida's Scrabble Champion, he remains a competitive player and director of the local Scrabble Club, which he founded. Carl’s transformational gift made the FIU Stocker AstroScience Center possible. The center will expand research and educational opportunities for students, while offering community members up-close encounters with the stars through public events. Carl serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board at FIU’s College of Arts, Sciences & Education.
