Marie Barnes is an assistant teaching professor and the Program Director for the Master's in Organizational Science Program. Throughout her career, she has worked as an internal consultant and strategic business partner driving critical business outcomes for government and nonprofit organizations.
Her areas of expertise include leadership coaching and development, training design and delivery, assessment and survey design, and change management.
Dr. Barnes' most recent practitioner role was as a Senior Organizational Development Consultant with Human Resources at Baptist Health South Florida. In this role, she worked as an internal consultant and strategic business partner driving critical business outcomes for the organization. Dr. Barnes coordinated learning and development activities for leaders at all levels. She also developed surveys and assessment tools to fulfill departmental needs and coached leaders at mid-level management level up to and including executive levels.
Prior to working at Baptist Health, Dr. Barnes was a Senior HR Analyst in the Selection and Assessment area of Human Resources at the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO). In that role, she coordinated the selection process for Firefighter/Paramedic applicants and civilian applicants in the Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services. She was also responsible for the development and administration of the promotional processes for the departments within BSO. Dr. Barnes also developed situational interview questions and job knowledge tests for various public safety civilian positions.
