I was born and raised in small town in New Jersey where I resided with my parents, a sister and brother. My goal in life was always to be a teacher; I graduated from New Jersey State College in 1968 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I moved to Miami, Florida following my college graduation, and was hired as a Kindergarten teacher for Miami-Dade County Public Schools. I remained with the public school system and taught many levels of elementary students; mostly students who were struggling readers. I returned to college in 1997 and obtained my master's degree in Reading. I left the public school system in 2002 to seek a higher academic goal, my doctorate, and aspired to teach college students. I have been teaching undergraduate reading education courses at Florida International University.
