Peter J. Cistone is Professor of Educational Administration/Leadership in the Department of Leadership and Professional Studies. His academic interests center on educational governance, policy, and politics; educational policy analysis; schools as organizations; and higher education administration. A member of the faculty at FlU since 1982, he served as Dean of the College of Education for five years. Previously, he held academic appointments at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Educational University of Toronto and Temple University, Philadelphia. He has served as Vice President of the American Educational Research Association, President of the University Council for Educational Administration (a federation of leading universities in the United States and Canada that offer the doctorate in Educational Administration), and President of the Florida Association of Professors of Educational Leadership. He began his professional career in education as a social studies teacher at Hunterdon Central High School, Flemington, New Jersey. He has also had extensive experience as a consultant to educational institutions and organizations in the United States and Canada. The author of over 40 referred scholarly and professional publications, he has served in an editorial capacity for several professional journals, including Education and Urban Society. Professor Cistone's professional work is informed and guided by the essential continuity and symbiotic relationship of teaching, research, and professional service. His involvement in research and other scholarly activity constitutes a critical developmental activity that is directly related to his instructional responsibilities. In a similar vein, his teaching and research are enriched by engagements in the arena of educational practice, just as they have contributed to conceptually informed and improved educational practice.
