George E. O'Brien earned his PhD in Science Education from The University of Iowa in 1985. O'Brien has authored and co-authored over 70 published manuscripts since 1984. He has presented at numerous international, national, regional, state, and local conferences/meetings.Currently, he serves as an Editorial Review Board Member for three scholarly journals. He has teamed with colleagues as PI, Co-PI, and Senior Personnel for many funded projects. O'Brien was chairperson of the Elementary Education Department (1993-1998) and chairperson of the Curriculum and Instruction Department (2008-2009). Currently, among other roles and responsibilities, he is a member of the FIU Social and Behavioral Institutional Review Board (SB-IRB) and a member of the Tenure, Promotion and Personnel Committee for the College of Arts, Sciences & Education.
